The workplace is like a second home to most people. Especially for the ones who like their jobs enough to desire a perfect environment with absolutely no mistakes or errors hindering them.

For most parts, it is beneficial to be happy and satisfied with your performance in the workplace as it provides us with a feeling of adequacy and effectiveness.

But, if such was the case, many people would have never complained about the dissatisfaction they feel in their work environment. People indeed experience a rate of dissatisfaction every minute. Besides, it also results in many complications and unrealistic expectations that lead to an employee’s downfall.

If you belong to the group of people who experience it, then it’s time to find out the factors behind the emptiness and dissatisfaction.

According to statistics, Ipsos, a global market research company, performed a survey on 10000 workers and found out that over 85% of the employees are dissatisfied with their office environment and have problems concentrating on work.

Now that is a lot of people who are dissatisfied with their workplace environment. It can hinder a lot of opportunities for the employee and the workplace itself.

So, let’s find out how to overcome dissatisfaction in the workplace and the reasons behind it.

What are the reasons behind dissatisfaction in the workplace?

Job dissatisfaction is a critical issue most people would want to address. The above data clearly shows that we have failed to provide a proper work environment for our employees.

As an employee, we could guess how difficult it is to live with a job and not be satisfied or happy in it. It leads to loss of motivation, excitement, and concentration at best and depression and anxiety at worst.

However, we have to find out the reasons behind dissatisfaction. If we are unaware of our roles in the work environment, we might suffer a great deal only to make up for things that we didn’t have to address.

For instance, the task provided to us can have many complications, which leads to frustration and increased stress levels. In other words, it is called emotional hijacking, which I have discussed before in one of my recent articles.

Now, it is very much possible to lose efficiency and performance when we cannot give 100%.

So, here are 3 possible reasons why we feel dissatisfied in the workplace.

1. We are concerned about our role in the job:

Of course. It is obvious, right.

If we are working in a job where there is a huge competition between the employees, our progress hits rock bottom, and we remain in the same role or designation for years.

Sometimes it is devastating to see others like us who are capable enough to get a high paycheck. People praise for their performance as they do not fall behind in the competition. It makes us envious of their achievements.

Ultimately, we lose out on ourselves and feel neglected and ignored. Not to forget, dissatisfied.

2. We do not get enough time to spend on ourselves:

This, I think, is one of the most important factors behind dissatisfaction in the workplace.

Now, we are considering 9 to 5 jobs that demand a lot of hard work and concentration. It is difficult to sustain in environments that provide almost little to no time to spend on ourselves, i.e., our needs and desires.

We may want to take a leave, go on vacation, try out something new, or spend time with our family. But, the restrictions do not let us do so. It leads to a lot of tension, stress, and isolation, which hampers our performance in the workplace.

3. We do not like the job:

Rare, but true.

When we do not like what we do, everything seems futile, and we feel dissatisfied. It is called job dissatisfaction. However, it is also one of the reasons we feel dissatisfied in our current work environment.

Not to forget the amount of patience it takes to survive in a place we do not want to be a part of. Most people end up making the wrong decision and suffer the consequences later.

This is particularly true for the armed forces jobs where many people feel dissatisfied due to the risks associated with it. We cannot force an artist to work in an IT company. Likewise, we do not work in a place where our talents are fruitless and undervalued.

So, we have discussed the reasons behind dissatisfaction in the workplace. Now, let’s find out how to overcome dissatisfaction in the workplace.

How to overcome dissatisfaction in the workplace?

The rate of dissatisfaction is increasing every year because of the above-mentioned reasons. However, things can only be solved when we find ways to deal with the situation at hand.

In other words, it is necessary to overcome this dissatisfaction if we want to regain our efficient personality, which we love and care about.

So, here are 5 ways to overcome dissatisfaction in the workplace.

1. Identifying the reason behind dissatisfaction:

I think this is where most people struggle a lot.

They do not know how to deal with themselves. They point out many factors responsible for the dissatisfaction but do not know which one it is. If we are unaware of these reasons, we might end up sabotaging our skillful personality ours.

Hence, it is necessary to identify the reason behind the feelings of inadequacy and dissatisfaction. We must take our time to find out what is negatively affecting us and how we can rectify it with ease. Doing so would greatly help release stress, and we can focus on self-development.

2. Keeping track of the ways we can bring change in our work environment:

Too much mundane and repetitive work can suck out the creative juices in our minds. We end up becoming robots, following orders and doing regular tasks again and again.

Our life becomes monotonous, and we fail to bring any positive development in the workplace. Besides, it also makes us depressed and anxious as nothing motivates us.

Hence, it is necessary to bring about a change in the workplace and consider new ways of performing tasks. Thinking out of the box helps in improving our intelligence, and we perform better with new ideas to share and apply. To sum up, it helps us overcome dissatisfaction in the workplace.

3. Talking it out with a friend or a loved one:

I have mentioned in the first section of this article about the workplace being our second home. So, home is where our loved ones exist. They love us, care about us, and help us overcome many difficult situations.

But I am not talking about friends or loved ones in our work environment. Instead, we can find such people around us who do not work in our workplace or someone who is more experienced than us

Seeking their valuable advice helps us deal with many issues that indirectly affect the rate of dissatisfaction in the workplace.

4. Finding ways to motivate ourselves:

Most people who are dissatisfied with their work environment lack interest or motivation to perform perfectly. They suffer from low self-esteem and negative self-image and often have no clue how to deal with it.

Most importantly, watching other colleagues succeed negatively affects their morale to ever achieve success in their careers.

Therefore, we must find out ways to boost our esteem and improve our image by motivating ourselves. Try to seek inspiration by attending seminars on things relevant to your workplace or watching motivational sessions.

Apply useful tactics to overcome increased workload and build a good rapport with your colleagues.

5. Lastly, looking for another job if the above-mentioned ways do no work out for us:

If we are too dissatisfied to find anything good about ourselves and our workplace, then it is time to change the place itself. I know it sounds ironic, but it is better to leave a workplace if it isn’t able to cater to your needs.

Sometimes, people have different expectations from their work environment that results in increased frustration and anger. They feel like they are just doing a job without having any inclination to do it.

Hence, it is better to leave the environment and find out something that can fulfill our desires and ambitions.

Final Words:

To sum up, it isn’t easy to deal with dissatisfaction in the workplace. One has to identify a lot of reasons for the loss of motivation, concentration, and interest while being compelled to work.

However, there are ways to overcome them and create a new and better career without regrets and miseries if we follow and improve ourselves with time.
